How to follow bills and weigh in
Constituents, businesses, and organizations have many opportunities to voice their support or opposition to bills under consideration at the Colorado General Assembly. Here is my quick primer on how to effectively provide input.
In 2024, more than 600 bills were introduced, debated, and voted on.
Every introduced bill has its own web page that includes relevant documents, committee schedules, voting records and current status.
Providing written feedback on bills is so important, and sharing your personal perspective and experiences can be powerful. Be brief if you can. To find a legislator’s email address, go to the General Assembly website and click Legislators. Search by name, or find a full list lower down on this page.
You can testify in person or online. Usually, each person is limited to three minutes. To sign up, go the General Assembly website and click Committees then Public Testimony.
Signing up, finding committee schedules, and timing your testimony can be tricky.
